At The Watches and Beyond Blog
Just look back four years ago: George W. Bush was still President of the United States. Michael Jackson and Evil Knievel were still alive. LOST was still on television.
It really is remarkable what can take place in four years. For some small critters like hamsters and elephant shrews, four years is a lifetime, and a long one at that. For some, it is the entirety of their High School careers.
We wait four years between a lot of our major sports tournaments, like the World Cup and the Olympics. And a high number of our government officials are elected on four-year terms.
However, there is something else that takes four years to create: PAtek Philippe Watches.
That’s correct: the Patek Philippe Watch Company spends four years producing their fine watches. The first step in the process is the research and development stage, which in itself is a year-long process at minimum. At its fastest speed, the building of each one of these timepieces takes nine months.
But for the more unique hand-crafted fine watches from Patek Philippe, the production stage is a two-year long process, followed by a six week to six month testing period, a requirement for all Patek Philippe timepieces before they are permitted to be shipped out and put on sale.
So think back to this exact day in 2007. Had you started building a Patek Philippe watch on that exact date, it would not have been completed until today.
